Re: Progress Update?

Well, I'm still not into those iThingys but I do now own a Win 8 laptop so I'm anticipating the eventual release of a Windows version with more confidence. I'm not sure about the features you mention above as they all seem cosmetic to me but if that's what it takes to wring out a few more sales, so ...

Just wondering.

Re: Firefight for iPad (Dec 2013) - tank battle video

You know, the more I think about it, the more I feel that the randomly generated maps were about 50% of FF's appeal. Firefight without them is going to get old very quickly, no matter how much the rest of the game has been improved. I can't support Knut's comment strongly enough. Some sort of map ge...

Re: Wandering 25pdr

Geoff, The usual problem with moving on-map artillery is that they seem to have a massive turning circle which sees them apparently wandering all over the place. The work-around is to pivot them in place facing the direction you want them to go, wait until they've turned to face in that direction, a...

Re: Firefight for iPad video

Thank you! That certainly looks promising. I'm not really into these i-things, though. What's the state-of-play with the Windows version?

Re: Firefight for iPad

Existing Windows Firefight as a Military Training Tool: Pros: Very easy to use. You can have someone who's never seen FF playing it competently in five minutes. Unit modability. Straightforward victory conditions and performance report. Cons: Most important: Inability to select and deploy enemy forc...

Re: Firefight for iPad

When I come to do the new Windows 8 version I'll probably include the map maker program I've written so people could make their own scenarios. You'd need to get hold of some nice looking backgrounds for the fields you'd want to use but once you've built up a 3072x3072 background image (it may end u...

Re: Firefight for iPad #2

Dunno how much you're planning to modify individual infantrymen but one feature I always wanted to see was panzerfausts being treated as secondary weapons (like grenades) rather than alternatives to small arms. Similarly, it would be good if weapon "loaders" (assistant gunners, ammo bearers, whateve...

And also, it appears that additional trophy graphics stop after 10. May be linked to the stretch problem. However, in earlier versions, the collection of trophies grew until the window space ran out.

Cheers,

Yeah, gotta admit I much prefer the old trophy icon myself.

Also, I reckon the grade of the trophy should be colour-coded (say, gold-first, silver-second, bronze third and, I dunno, maybe brown for the fourth grade) and that the number on each trophy should be the season.

Mate, just go to Sean's website http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/index.html And click on "Buy Full Versions". Or click on the game you want at the top of the screen and buy it from there. Note that, although Firefight is the only wargame that Sean has developed, you're probably better off spending a bi...

Agreed. I've managed some pretty good ambushes in my time as well. Mind you, I've also mucked up a few. One trap is that I think a unit will only open fire if a certain percentage of its soldiers can engage the target. Several times I've seen enemy squads moving across the front of one of my units w...

Quick response as I'm pushed for time. Did you check LoS to your desired kill zone? I've often been caught out by the shape of the top of a hill. I've deployed my troops thinking they can see everything when the shape of the hilltop prevents them from seeing targets at close and medium ranges. Cheer...

I've always assumed that the "system" credits a kill to whoever fired the fatal shot, whether or not he was firing at a target he could see or a muzzle flash. Unspotted dead units appear when someone spots them or at the end of the game but I've never thought credit for killing them wasn't awarded t...

Re: Suggestion: ID of destroyed enemy units

I would like to know what i?ve just knocked out as there may be more lurking around!!! I've always thought that one of the beauties of Firefight is that you don't know. You have to guess/assess by the amount of return fire. After the game , if I want to find out what I was up against, I start a new...
