July 44
You: German (Defender)
Enemy: Canadian (Attacker)
Type: Infantry and Tanks
Map: 7170928

I find this to be a really fun map that I play over and over using different unit selections. Try it with zero tanks. Infantry only.

There is no unique "don't surrender" thing for the Japanese in this game. Everyone seems to surrender the same. That being - when a certain amount of casualties are taken, they try to retreat. Once they are in retreat mode, a tank coming near them or maybe even seeing enemy troops leads them surrend...

Anything "could be in the game" since armies overrun and capture all kinds of stuff. However, having said that, I don't think nebelwerfers and 400mm rail guns or whatever would add much fun to the gameplay. Certainly, none of that would be deployed by the infantry / tank companies which are the unit...

That quote is often attributed to Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto but there are no firm records of him actually saying it. This wiki page has more details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isoroku_Yamamoto's_sleeping_giant_quote I think the AI is adequate for the game, to stay on topic. Also, I'm an American t...

I think on the list of needed / desirable Firefight changes, it's pretty low. Number one being, as I've said many times before, some type of representation of the ability of infantry to destroy unsupported tanks at close range. However, having said that, it should only apply to the Japanese from a h...

Molotov cocktails were something that every army could use, and many did at times. The way that men scatter when a tank comes close would have to be adjusted too. It would be hard to use close assault weapons if they couldn't get close. I can live with the freeze up thing (I don't like it though). I...

Yeah, I'll just repeat my usual thing: FF is really fun. The ONE thing that would make it much better would be some simulation of the ability of infantry to attack tanks at close range with magnetic charges, grenades, molotov cocktails. The total and absolute invincibility of tanks to infantry is th...

The "sea and freeze" behaviour of tanks is pretty well known in Firefight. If they see another tank or an AT gun, they will stop all movement and fire it out until one is destroyed or their LOS is restricted (as by smoke). I had two regular Shermans use their ENTIRE ammo supply in a duel with a sing...

Agreed, the HMG's don't seem to be meat grinders that they would seem to be. On average, my HMG teams seem to get around one kill per game. Sometimes zero, sometimes 3. Upping their ammo capacity sounds good, will try that. The 20mm cannon is indeed modeled wrong. This seems to happen in a lot of co...

I played it exactly as you described (inf and tanks, Jul 1940, etc) and the Germans hade two half-tracks and one of those 8-wheeled scout cars with a a 20mm. So, three vehicles. I had only a Bren gun carrier which got knocked out by the 20mm. Hopeless. I played it again on the same one and bought a ...

Wow! That is a hard map. The objective was in enemy hands within 30 seconds of game start. I had a Bren carrier, they had two SdKfz 251 and a one of those scout cars with a 20mm gun. So, we got overrun pretty quickly. However, did you mean "infantry only" instead of "infantry and tanks"? With tanks,...

In WWI, I think artillery in the direct fire mode was successfully used against tanks. Also, the first antitank rifle was a regular Mauser K98 with the bullet reversed so the flat end would punch through the armor more easily. Early tanks had very light armor. Of course, those early tanks had major ...

It doesn't have a map maker, but it does have a random map generator as well as parameters for the type of terrain (desert, hills, forest, jungle, etc).

I don't believe it's available in stores. And it is a damn cool game, tell your parents to get with the program and buy it.

OK, that is damn cool! Haven't tried it in game but I will. However, in the game this thing would be invulnerable to infantry when, in reality, it's an open top, lightly armored vehicle that grenades and small arms could successfuly engage at close range. With 4 HMG's, in the game it could easily de...
