I think this is a limitation of the game, unfortunately, and, as far as I know, there currently isn't a way to fix it.

As far as I know, the system is that you order and receive the new game, send the order details to Sean, and request the older versions, and he'll give them to you. At least, that's how it worked for me ^^

They already have a tough time with anything involving asteroids.

But that counts as a loss, so you might want to avoid that. If you just fire missiles occasionally and wait for long enough the colonizer usually flies off the edge of the screen, resulting in a win.

Eh, I dunno. I mean, it may not be all that fun, but otherwise what's the point of those "Destroy the ____" missions if you don't actually have to destroy it?

If you're really trying to conserve missiles, you can count off 29 turns and then fire a missile. But 20 is a safe number and is usually what I stick with.
