Where to find the modified Designs.dat file?
Does anyone know where I can download the modified Designs.dat file for Critical Mass: you know, the one which lets the enemy use custom ships? I already tried the link in the original post on this forum, but it no longer works.

Found a minor glitch in CM
OK, you know how in the mission designer if you type "$" in the mission description, then when the mission plays the computer will replace the "$" with the name of the enemy race . . . Well, it doesn't work in the mission success messages or the mission failure messages. Instead, it just shows the "...

There is no way to delete the standard ships. If you just want to use the custom ships, just make lots of copies of them. You can have up to 40 custom ships in the game at once. With that many custom ships, you're pretty sure to have some available for every mission. Unfortunately, the computer can ...

Meeting the Enemy Squadron
In my oppinion, the most important moves when fighting an enemy squadron are - the move you're making when you contact the enemy squadron, and the next few moves after that. These are the moves where you can put yourself in a good tactical position to fight the rest of the battle, and also where you...

Default Wingmen vs. Custom Wingmen
I'm not sure, but it seems to me like my wingmen are better programmed to handle default ships than they are to handle custom ships. It's like they automaticaly know the strengths and weeknesses of the default ships, but they don't recognise the strengths and weeknesses of custom ships. They general...

... well, simply put: you don't particularly suck, commanders usually just don't last very long. Personally, I don't think the number of missions played or the success rate is a particularly good way to measure a commander's skill. They are both strongly affected by the difficulty of the missions y...

Dogfighting Tactics
I've been practicing a lot of dogfighting lately, and I was wondering what sort of tactics people used to defeat an enemy squadron.

Um . . . Actualy, changing the apearance of a ship has no effect on how it functions in combat. The game calculates the size of your ship based on it's components. Shields add to your ship's size more than anything else. You can change your ship's apearance all you want, even deleting all the triang...

Wingmen Not Following Orders
OK, so yesterday I was playing a custom mission where the goal was to controll the sector. The resistance consisted of two turret rings, and two enemy squadrons. On my side, there were four friendly squadrons, plus my own squadron. The mission was designed in such a way that the friendly squadrons w...
