The advantages of an HMG should be: Range: The 850m x 850m Firefight map isn't really big enough for this to be important and the HMG maximum range of 550m is too short anyway - they should at least be able to shoot from one side of the map to the other. Ammo: They should have lots of ammo and there...

OK, I got round to checking out the "infantry run away from friendly tanks" feature in 3.99p today. I'm kinda torn by this one. As a old grunt, I can say that it's best to keep as far away from friendly tanks as possible. They don't always see you, you see, and the last thing you want is for 30 tons...

I'll make AT guns less spottable when they fire and I agree that the crew shouldn't run away so much. They think they're infantry caught in the open so they run for cover when they should shelter behind the gun more. I'll look forward to seeing the results. It's tough to know exactly what levels of...

I tend to place ATGs on the backs of hills so that tanks roar by and get blasted, or I place them so they all cover the same area but from different locations so that if one is being pinned, the other can shoot at the thing pinning it. Which is exactly what was done during WW2. Must be why it works...

Anti-tank Gun Issues

I've been mucking around a bit with anti-tank guns (ATGs) because I tend to agree that, at the moment, they're not worth wasting points on. In 3.99m (which is what I was using), a tank is easily worth two ATGs. Two bazookas/PIATs/panzershrecks are much more survivable than the one ATG you usually ge...

So, accepting that there is little or no possibility of moving troops tactically in these scenarios, how does beating the very hard level make you "the best"? It's about positioning before the battle, and considering how you have no way of knowing where in the large area you have to defend to meet ...

For some people, it's good that there's a level where a game is unbeatable. Others are unhappy with a level that they can't beat. Horses for courses. I'm in the former category. Because there's a challenge, I'll always keep trying to crack it. For me, there's no shame in failing at the hardest level...

Defence on hard and very hard is getting really tedious now though. AT gets taken out immediately and infantry just sits there and turns red. I now just hit retreat as soon as the game starts and leave the game running while I do something else until the next mission gives me a few more men to defe...

OK, so I only get Pacific/Burma terrain if I choose Jungle? (I thought "Jap v Aussie, Pacific Islands, Villages" might give me some sort of tropical built-up area. "Pacific Islands, Lowlands" still looks like Belgium :) ) I'm not the sort to master the tools to do it myself but the New Zealand flag ...

The 25 pdr was an artillery weapon. It was given a secondary anti-tank capability to bridge the gap while the ineffective 2 pdr anti-tank gun was being replaced by the more powerful 6 pdr.

Oh, and one final question - why can't you manoeuvre tanks once they've seen another tank or gun emplacement? It seems like madness that they have to sit where they are and chuck long-range bricks at some gun at the top of a hill. I'm not sure what you're on about here, mate. I've never had any tro...

3.99i - Jerky Setup Scrolling is Back

Unfortunately, I hadn't got round to playing with 3.99i before now.

I immediately noticed that the almost-impossible-to-handle slow, very jerky scrolling during setup that was fixed so well in 3.99f is now back again.

I'd also like the AI to be a little smarter in its deployment. If I put a line by a hill edge, I don't want them at the back of the ledge where they can't see over the edge and thus do nothing, I want them at the edge where they have a LOF down the hill! Likewise, I don't want guys who in the woods...
