Quite right, Kangaroo. IMO, the fractal hills are better in they they more closely resemble real terrain. However, the location of major high points and key military crests is not obvious from the current graphics. I don't mind that I can't make out every last bump and hollow. It would be nice, howe...

Contour lines would work for me. I've spent half my life looking at maps and would have no trouble interpreting them.

I suggested elevation-based shading only because that's what's found in many atlases and I thought more people would be familiar with it. But whatever works ...

OK, I'll get that changed! Is it just the dead Germans that need updating? Ah, OK! I see all the "dead" graphics include a number of the pinkish pixels. The UK dead graphic has only one, which is why it looks different. Might have a crack at changing them back myself. No big deal. To be honest, Sea...

I agree the dead blood colour looks like my wife's pink lipstick. Can we go back to red, please? OK, I see the on-map dead crosses seem to have different shades of red for different nationalities. That's good - it makes it easier to tell the difference between friendly and enemy dead. However, the ...

Predator, I figured that if Sean makes the nationalities too specific, there will always be people who aren't totally happy with what he's done. It would take a bit of work to turn a generic nationality into exactly what the player wants but at least then players could get exactly what they do want....

I could create new nationalities like Brits/Australians in the Pacific and even Germans on the East and West fronts (you never got Elefant tanks in the West for example). It could start to get a bit fiddly though so it might not be worth it! Could you maybe create a couple of generic nationalities ...

Predator,

Troops are harder to see but see Sean's third "major improvement" above

(ie - Hold down the Spacebar to highlight all of your troops at once)

I agree the dead blood colour looks like my wife's pink lipstick. Can we go back to red, please?

Haven't checked out the flamethrowers yet.

After giving it the benefit of every possible doubt, I have finally uninstalled 4.1 and gone back to 4.0. The fractal hills are more realistic but it's much harder to understand their shape, which makes planning difficult. Some form of terrain height shading or contour line marking would go a long w...

To be honest, if I was commanding either of the enemy squads in the above example, I wouldn't be counterattacking either. A force at least twice my strength, supported by four armoured vehicles, has just blitzed round my left flank and you want me to do what !!? I'd be lying doggo too, hoping not to...

Wasn't attacking you mate. Just trying to point out that every man and his dog has an opinion about "realism" and none of them are the same. You're right to note that providing player-selectable options IS one way of dealing with this. I guess that's the game designer's call on a feature-by-feature ...

The point is that you wouldn't remove suppression you just have it not last quite as long, I think the game would still feel pretty realistic. Suppression is one of those game features where a balance between "realism" and "playability" is unlikely ever to be achieved. One of the most instructive "...

I agree. If tank and anti-tank guns were made historically accurate, Firefight tanks would live very short lives. The whole feel of the game would significantly change. To be consistent, the spotting routines would have to be revisited as well. Firefight is largely an infantry game. AFVs work well i...

Yeah, the troops don't seem to like being fired at from more than one direction and they don't seem to like enemy between them and their baseline. A mate of mine once played an attacking game where he infiltrated his whole force up one side of the map and approached the objective undetected from the...
