I've always found that Firefight favours quantity over quality. I firmly believe that the purchase point cost of ELITE soldiers is too high. I've modded my files so that RAW units are about 50% RAW troops and 50% REGULAR while ELITE units are 50% REGULAR and 50% ELITE. I find that this still provide...

I find myself using 4.1 whenever I feel like an attacking game but switching back to 4.0 for defence games and campaigns.

I find that smoke works quite well if you position it correctly. Before targeting it, make sure you check the wind direction (<View> <Mission Objective> from the menu bar, top left of the screen). Placed correctly, it does break LoS and enable troops pinned by fire to withdraw (provided they're not ...

Anti-armour accuracy is unhistorically bad in Firefight. No first round 88 kills at 1500 metres in this game. (Which is just as well as the map's less than 900m x 900m IIRC). Firefight AFVs do a good infantry support job but shooting at tanks is a bit of a joke. I live with this because I regard Fir...

Ah, OK. I misunderstood your post. Numbers! This game is all about numbers at the point of contact. That is why some defensive battles are virtually impossible to win with a static defence if the ground prevents the smaller number of defensive units from mutually supporting each other. Defensive uni...

My thoughts are included in the thread "What does "Fractal" mean?" further down the index page. However, my biggest complaint is that, in producing ver 4.1 with the fractal hills, Sean has apparently turned off the ability to properly site long-range weapons in defensive battles by disabling the "F"...

Something certainly seems to be not quite right there. Where are the tree shadows? (Note: the fact that the building shadows don't seem to conform to the buildings seems to be a feature. The same thing happens on my system.) Buildings don't seem to be showing up on the mini-map either. That's versio...

If you're asking about what I think you're asking about, those are the dead. Note that it's possible for soldiers to be killed out of line-of-sight of a friendly unit and for them to show up dead when they're finally spotted by one of your guys.

I hope you've put the issue I reported with the "F" key during 4.1 setup on your list of things to fix whenever you get round to them :)

I rarely survive more than half-a-dozen battles, although I do have a Russian campaign that's up to battle 19. I regard it as some sort of fluke! :)

My entire army is suppressed by one man firing a pistol at them. I've got a feeling you may be trying to micromanage a bit too much. Firefight is a numbers game. Two squads will usually beat one. You need to realise, however, that it takes them time to do it. When a unit comes under fire, the first...

A quick Google informs me that, during WW2, around 25,000 rounds of small arms ammuntion had to be fired for every small arms kill. By the time of the Vietnam War, apparently, this had at least doubled (due to the increase in the number of auto and semi-automatic weapons on the battlefield) and some...

Yeah, but my understanding is that you actually won that game. I lost, but still got told my performance was "Good". I have won games but not done "Good". :)
