You can find most of the game's data in easily moddable text files in the data sub-directory. Just make sure you use a text editor (like Notepad) and not a more sophisticated word processor. See this thread for an example of a user-made campaign http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8...

HMGs work well if you can prevent them from firing in the early game. The only way to do this is to hide them behind a building or feature and bring them forward once the initial contact has been made. But... if you do this, you'll be able to use them effectively against large enemy groupings instea...

I think I see the map number (greyed out in the demo) ... is that a specific map or some sort of seed # that generates a map based on what was input? If it's not a randomization seed ... It is a randomisation seed. With all other settings remaining the same, using that number will generate the same...

Below is a post I made on FF some years ago. Note that a few more nationalities and terrain types have been added since then. The game units and the campaigns are easily and endlessly moddable but there's no map editor and no scenario creator. The game is pixel-based, so bigger screen = bigger field...

Most of the time, an attacking enemy will start to retreat after you've inflicted a certain number of casualties on them. I think it may be 50% but I don't know for sure. It sounds like you've had a rare game where you were able to stop the enemy but not inflict enough casualties to break them. In t...

Re: Outlook for Firefight.

When I choose terrain "lowlands" I really want no hills. Yeah, and the desert needs to be more "desert-like" as well :) Desert terrain always had too many hills but Sean also did something to it a few versions back that added in a lot of trees, making it more like yellow forests or hilly maps than ...

I'm not sure but I think that what the AI doesn't do that maybe a human player might is to cancel fire missions that were plotted on troops that it can see have moved away from the target area. The AI's actually caught me out a couple of times with this. It's called fire down on some of my leading t...

Re: Outlook for Firefight.

But will the new hills be any different in the way the game is played? ... I can't remember anyone saying "I wish for better-looking hills". I'm certainly on record somewhere as saying this. The problem with FF hills is that they're steep-sided molehills, artificial-looking geographic pimples. You'...

Some of your guys dying doesn't mean the AI wins. If you've got two or three squads facing off against an enemy squad, most of your guys won't die and the AI troops will eventually be shot out of position, even without some fancy, flanking manoeuvre. The player's arty doesn't take longer to arrive t...

A battery of 8 105 mm guns (which I believe the FF off-map artillery is meant to represent) firing a simple concentration would have a MINIMUM impact area of 150 x 150 metres, which is at least six times the size of the FF artillery targetting circle. The issue is not that FF artillery is unreasonab...

You can mod squads and vehicles using the weapons available in the game but there is no way (at this stage :) ) to create new weapons.

There's a thread somewhere else about additional infantry weapons I'd like to be able to give some squads but no joy I'm afraid.
