I'm not interested in topo lines as I think they'd look completely silly, and take away from the more "realistic" look you were going for in the first place with the creation of the fractal hills! You'd might as well go back to the contour hills, since that's really what people are asking for here. ...

Guns in real life were basically imobile without the support of a towing vehicle. Even then, it would take at least 10 minutes for a full crew to limber and hitch up a anti-tank gun for movement. The fact that any mobility of the guns in fiefight is basically unrealistic, but expecting to be able to...

Yeah, I've had that happen. I suspect that like I said, it's somehow terrain related, either to the radio contact thing (they couldn't receive orders to paull back), or the line of sight thing (they were too far away or badly positioned to see your troops move to their rear). I notice that the squad...

I think you have a point, but I've seldom had it as bad as you. Usually I find that the enemy will "fall back" towards the HQ once my troops have bypassed them and are pressing towards the obj. Sometimes however, the game will end and the enemies troops will have sat in a farmhouse on the side of th...

The one thing that really needs to be changed is the ability of tanks to see other tanks. I know it encourages the close cooperation of tanks with infantry, which is going along with the infantry nature of the game, but to have a tank drive 20m in front of your tank and not be seen, goes beyond unre...

I can't see how suppression can be taken out of the game and it not make the game just a shoot-em up, who fires first wins thing. taken out? no! but reduced, as Soldier get suppressed too much fastly and stay suppressed too long. Soldier cover, in a house or a tree will not supress for a hmg shot, ...

The current method of suppression is modeled exactly right! Too often, we want to hurry through the game, rushing our men up and over the enemy in a shoot-'em up type action! But this game is attempting to be more of a simulation than a first-person type shooter game, and guess what? Our little men...

Guns eat tanks alive only if the player/AI makes tactical errors. Since Firefight is mainly an infantry game, tanks are always accompanied by infantry. Dealing with AT guns is infantry's job. They have to destroy guns or at least spot them so that tanks/arty could destroy them. Are you sure that ac...

That's interesting. I've never considered mixing levels within the same unit. I'll have to try that. The only other tactic I've had success with is to keep one unit hidden on a far flank in a sort of reserve, and then bring it up behind the attacker at the point when things seem most dire. Having en...

Elite units in the defense?

Has anyone had any luck using Elite forces (Commandos, SS, Paras) in an infantry defensive game? I find I have rare luck with them, due to the small numbers of troops you can actually field. Too often they are quickly overwhelmed by an enemy that outnumbers the 3-4:1, and get off few shots before be...

accuracy

I've played the game *a lot*, and don't think there is much of an accuracy problem. Sometimes, a stationary tank or gun in the defense will miss an enemy tank a half dozen times at only a 100m. But other times, such in my last game, I had my two ATGs fire their first shot simultaneously at the singl...

I occasionally use it offensively provided the wind is favourable. The trick is not to try and attack through the smoke, since - as you just said - it blocks the view for your own support elements, too. I either put it up right in front of the enemy so I can maneouvre squads into positions they can...
