These are cool mods. However, in reality, the pintle mounts only allowed engagement in the frontal arc of fire. Neither the M2 .50 or the MG34/42 7.92mm machine guns on US or German halftracks could fire to the rear arc. The gunner would have to have been on the vehicles hood! Thus, the "factory" ar...

I really need to get into these unit mods. The uselessness of the mortar and AT weapon guys after they shoot their ammo is frustrating since, being a in a combat area, they would all have firearms in reality.

HMG's and AT guns seem to go into a "conserve ammo" mode when their ammo is low. Maybe tanks too, not sure. In this case, they need to be instructed to fire manually. AT Rifles seem to have no effect on personnel. I manually had mine fire all his ammo at an isolated and visible enemy - no results. S...

Agree on all points! I use a minimum of two mortars, when I use them, and sometimes four (just for the hell of it, it depletes direct fire units a lot to spend so much on mortars though). I would also like them to only fire on my command. They do waste their ammo too much on single infantrymen when ...

#4 Tanks shouldn't be able to go into deep woods. They should only be able to go into the periphery of a forest, thus increasing the value of infantry. This is realistic. Didn't loads of Panzers just brute force their way through the Ardennes? Tanks should be able to go deep into woods, but they sh...

I've now, after playing a hundred or so games, narrowed my wish list down to one and only one: Reduce the absolute invulnerability of all armored vehicles to infantry! Here's how: 1. Many vehicles in the game have open tops (half tracks, many self-propelled guns) and the crew could be engaged with s...

No, it was all WWII.

Maybe you are thinking of Castle Wolfenstein? :)

Andy - Did you ever play Sudden Strike? Did you impression sync with mine (great graphics, poor realism)?

Thanks Andy, will try some of that eventually. I haven't gotten to a mod stage yet, but I do think I could manage it.

Sudden Strike (circa 2003?) is a game that reminds me a bit of Firefight. It is a top down view game with indivual men, tanks and guns. Graphics are better in terms of houses, craters, fences, tanks, etc. But overall playability and especially realism is worse. Each unit has a certain sighting dista...

During the war with the Japanese, the Nationalist Chinese and Communist Chinese more or less agreed to a truce and to work together against the common enemy. So, there only needs to be one China in the game.

In a defense mission with me playing the Japanese, EVERY SINGLE MAN of mine was either killed or immobilized. Setting was "very hard". The unit commander was on a hillside, immobilized, the other three men in the HQ group dead. He had previously popped off all but three pistol rounds at close range ...

I bought it about two weeks ago and have played maybe 30 games. Love it! Vaguely comparable to Sudden Strike, except better. #1 On my wish list is the frequently mentioned "Hold Fire" button. Better yet, give the unit a range to open at (could be a percentage of max range or in meters). #2 This was ...
