Visual basic is definitely a good place to start. You can do easy simple and useful things like making dice rollers and such. You also learn about how programming works like cause-effect, arrays, objects, and all that stuff.

The only missiles I put on my custom ships are plecs and daycorns. Fighters I think need plecs as much as bombers do, cause a lot of my dogfighting is done by colliding with enemy ships.
