Much harder than it looks

Give this a try. Design a mission with no random asteroids, and only two objects. The first object is an enemy turret ring in the center of the sector. The second object is an asteroid field in the center of the sector. The objective is to destroy the turret ring. See how many turrets you can take o...

Sorry - I thought I put stealth on there too. I guess I missed it.

Bomber Design

Just a quick poll to see what sort of bombers people prefer to use. Any other comments you have would be apreciated.

I've never flown a drone as my personal ship. I have flown custom ships that were similar to drones, but they were destroyed pretty quickly, so I try to avoid those type of ships.

I already downloaded your Designs Manager. It's a neat program, but I wish there was a way to modify the components of default ships, or to add new default ships. Someone wouldn't have to make default ships more expensive, they could simply excange the ship's components for more useful components. F...

Any way to modify "Designs.dat" file?

Does anyone know of a way to modify the "Designs.dat" file so that the computer can fly custom ships?

I sometimes go through several zoom levels before planning my moves. On the one hand, a low zoom level is nice because you can see more of the battle. That way, you can plan two or three moves ahead. On the other hand, a high zoom level is useful for doing precision moves. For instance, you have Day...

If you want to increase the number of credits you have, just use the mission designer to design a mission with no enemies. Every time you play it, you will succede on the first turn.

I'm thinking about a missile not exploding but working as a scanner. (It just goes straight like a plectron pretty fast and shows you all ships it passes in some certain distance). You can send Orik missiles to scout out enemy ships. Launch an Orik into an open part of space, and wait for it to hit...

The idea of African people in a medeval game is ridiculas. It's not historicaly acurate. Sean isn't trying to degrade black people. He just doesn't want one of his games looking like he designed the graphics in his sleep. If you're concerned about racial equality, there are much more important issue...

I tried your tactic again Author, using ships with high stealth and turning. I got into the turret ring this time, but was again destroyed by Drachans coming from all sides. My other two ships made passes at the turrets, but did not fire on them until I was out of the ring. By then, my ship was almo...

I like your point, Old Man Johnson. When I am playing Defend missions, the enemy ships often hit asteroids more than they hit my ships . . . You might not get damaged so much if you stay back aways from the turrets and use some form of guided missiles. I find this works better on turrets than on ene...

I do not believe it is apropreate to rate a commander's skill based on his number of successes, or his perportion of successes to faliors. Everyone has lots of faliors in the begining, but once they gain a certain number of credits, they buy more and better ships, and so have more successes. Eventua...

Athor, I tried your strategy and my ship was blown up from the front by a hail of drachans and plectrons that was too thick to maneuver through. Not one of the sixteen light turrets was destroyed. Granted, I was using cheap ships, and a new commander to test your strategy (I wouldn't want to loose o...

Critical Mass Tactics

I love battle tactics, and I haven't read many messages detailing tactics for this game. I'm leaving this message in hope that people will reply with tactics they've discovered, and that others will find this a useful tactical resource when they play "Critical Mass". The following is an organized li...
