Great game, no snipers?

First off, I recently bought all the games (very happy) and this one has been my favorite. Fantastic compared to maybe all other games trying to model similar fights.
But I am surprised that I have not seen any snipers.
Maybe I just haven't played the right part of the war, but I have definitely played a bunch where sniper teams would seem to belong on the list of available units.
I think they would fit into the system really well, perhaps firing nearly as often as rifles but with great accuracy, and perhaps occupying a similar niche in the game to HMGs.
Thanks and your games are fantastic

Your observation is correct, there are no sniper teams in the game.

maybe someone can make a few new units or sounds and send them to Sean for the next version of Firefight ?!?
Anti-tank rifles, Anti-tank guns

We could try Anti-tank rifles against individual soldiers. I don't know if they would behave the right way.
I know enemy anti-tank guns work awfully hard at killing my own individual soldiers, and my own waste their time on that too, when I would like them to wait for enemy tanks.
Otherwise, a 50mm atk gun team would simulate a sniper team well, if only their fire and above all, movement could be controlled as one would like!!

Well, I tried using anti-tank rifles and 37mm anti-tank guns for antipersonnel weapons.
The game was all infantry, map 4458847, july 1941. Me german attacking british.
Only 1 gun started wandering round in circles.
They did not make a huge difference that I could notice.
They start with 100 rounds. When their ammo got below 50, they seemed very reluctant to fire.
Could this be because they then have only anti-tank solid shot left?
The anti-tank rifles would fire at visible enemy or muzzle flash if ordered, but didn't seem to kill any or suppress enemy much.
My take on this is that it is not unrealistic, as real soldiers would use weapons for what they are useful for, as well as what they are designed for. Example, in the Falklands War, Milan anti tank missiles (very expensive) were used to attack weapon pits. In Viet Nam, .50 cal machine guns were used to fire single rounds , as longe-range sniper wpns.

HMG's and AT guns seem to go into a "conserve ammo" mode when their ammo is low. Maybe tanks too, not sure. In this case, they need to be instructed to fire manually.
AT Rifles seem to have no effect on personnel. I manually had mine fire all his ammo at an isolated and visible enemy - no results.
Snipers would be cool, but I notice in games that have them they get over-used as they are "too powerful", if that makes sense. If my one wish (reducing the invincibility of tanks) would be granted, this game would be damn near perfect.

Try a one man unit ELITE with a rifle. No grenades. You'd have to position him carefully but once in a while he might do something useful. Maybe give him a REGULAR offsider with a carbine or SMG for close protection? Such a unit would have to be class RECON.
I often put such a man in my rifle squads as a sort of designated marksman. It makes for a bit of variety. He'd really need to be super-ELITE to work properly as a lone sniper though.

i think a sniper would be a great edition to game, but ive only played the demo, and it seems that infantry get suppressed to easy,i mean at least in Company of Heroes, you can get supressed, even pinned, but thats only if you are against a mg42.but in get suppressed just by small arms fire and it can get really annoying(sorry for kinda goin off topx).anyway,a sniper would make it even more annoying,so Sean O Connor, its a good thing you didnt put a sniper into, you are a smart fellow.

You think a sniper would be a great addition even though you think it's a good thing there isn't a sniper in the game?

first of all kangaroo,a sniper would add more feel and realism in the game, but it would stupid in this game to have one sense infantry is so easy to be suppressed,so maybe in a future version sean will put a sniper
and reduce suppession on infantry.
thats what i mean kangaroo

Ah, okay, I didn't get that before. Well, my two cents are that the suppression actually is pretty well done the way it is, it gives Firefight a way more realistic feel than most games.

I suppose you could always make your own sniper teams. Take the HMG team, mod it so that the gunner has a rifle and is rated ELITE, and give his loader a SMG for support. I don't know if the SMG guy would ever fire his weapon, though. And you'd have to place them fairly carefully...something to play around with, I'm sure, but not something really significant enough in the whole concept of comapny-sized battles.

personally in coy vs. coy id rather have an mg than a sniper...

ok,so you would rather waste 10,000 rounds on one freakin enemy soldier than waste only 1 round.Wow,If you were the leader of a country, your country would have to be rich to pay for all the ammo you waste...
You would probably take heavy casualties because the other country has snipers and your MG crews will be killed because your rounds just arent hitting the enemy. This is not WW1 where MGs were supreme,Jeez...
Oh yea,Knut, the sniper team consists of a sniper and a SPOTTER not a sniper and a loader.
