I have recently started playing this amazing game, but even though i have my share of 'superb' scores, the line of sight sometimes leaves me puzzled. What exactly determines what units see?
I will give an example:
I am on a desert map, no cover anywhere. I scale a hill with RECON troops and make it to the top, only to find them being fired upon from afar by hidden enemies. How come my elevated recon troops cannot spot the enemy (yet the enemy immediately spots them)? He can't really hide anywhere in the desert can he.

To be seen by the other side troops must have an unobstructed line of sight to them, but they also must then be "spotted" too. The chances of being spotted are based on things such as are the troops moving, are they standing up, is it a big object like a tank, is the object shooting. I guess what happened is that your troops crested the hill and as they are moving they are relatively easy to spot compared to the stationary enemy troops who are lying down.
