Ubuntu Linux and Wine

Post by mitype2 » Wed Jun 10, 2009 10:03 pm

Hey guys,

I installed Ubuntu Linux to get away from Microcrap. I've got good news. I installed Wine and installed Slay, The General, Conquest and MOAB. Everything seems to work fine. Sound is good, graphics are the same. I'm so happy. Those for games are the ones I play most.

I tried Firefight but it crashed. I haven't tried any of the others yet.

You may end up having a problem with CM, too.

Sean, do you think that there is a solution for that? will you make a linux version of your games?
I need to write something, so i create that signature.

?Sean O'Connor's Windows Games. Now for Linux.? That could make my head explode.

It's no more paradoxical than Sean O'Connor's Windows Games. Now for MacOS.

Good point. That already made my eye twitch. But anyway, it's a good thing to have the games for multiple systems. I hope it pays off.

Agreed. In theory, more money for Sean and a bigger user-base should mean more infusions of awesomeness.

I had some issues running Conquest in wine, but it was resolved by uncheking the
game and network sound ingame. There is one anoying bug though in all the
Sean O'Connor W%?@!& Games, and that is that the statistic menu's don't work (wine displays an empty statistics screen).
That isn't fatal ofcourse, but it's slightly anyoing... Please tell me if anyone has a fix to this :)

I usually move the window around until it starts displaying something. Also, you could report the Wine bug to the Wine database. Maybe one day they'll fix it.

One thing that annoys me in Wine that it displays black space instead of map in some wargames like F2C2 and WitP.

Ugh. It seems that the new version of Wine makes Firefight slow down so much that it's unplayable. I guess, I'll have to stay with the old version of Wine and hope that they'll fix it one day.
