I use MS Help Workshop that comes with Visual Studio 6.

You write your help file in Word and save it as a .rtf file. Links are written as double underlined text and the topic name that it links to is written as hidden text. You indicate a topic by writing its name in a footnote.

Then I use Help Workshop to turn that .rtf file into a .hlp file.

I think this is an old fashioned way of doing it though by about 10 years!

Do you have to have VS6, can MS Help Workshop be downloaded without VS?

I found a certain HTML Help Workshop, also from M$. How do you make links on that :?:
