I haven't encountered the "surrender bug" as other's have described but I did have a problem many, many hours after I had installed the game and was playing it.

I would hit "end turn" then get the "nag screen" confirmation request (as I had men that I could still move). I would confirm that yes, I truly wanted to end the turn and then suddenly find I was returned to the initial map selection screen and had to start over. This happened to me a number of times in a row.

Restarting my iPhone completely solved the problem. It is a well known fact that one should restart their iPhone after installing any new app (I didn't in this case) and that many apps don't free up memory like they should when the app is quit.

Might the "surrender bug" be related to such a low memory condition? And be solved simply by restarting (not quitting the app and reloading it) one's iPhone or iPod touch?

Just a thought.

I was just thinking this the other day, actually. The site URL is becoming increasingly inaccurate with each new release!

I've also seen the baron bug, but I had to actually try to cause it, since I rarely use barons in my conquests...apparently Sean doesn't either, if that slipped past testing.

I've also had a few instances where ending a turn with guys left (please give us the option to skip that message again, eh?) will cause the turn to reset. It only happened two or three times so far, but it's a little tedious to redo the whole turn again when it does.

I'd also like my right-click-to-get-a-guy feature back...double tap would work nicely, I think. Or possibly two finger tap, since that's the trackpad equivalent on the Mac.

Still, I'm having a lot of fun with Slay, and want the game to do as well as it deserves to.

I can confirm the "can't move Barons" bug as well. I try to finish the game without using them (and can usually succeed at Very Hard) but just encountered a map where I had to use one and couldn't move him into play.

I also agree that a "swipe" motion makes more sense for moving between the map pages instead of the page buttons you have at the bottom.

BTW, I think the map pages are a bit spartan in appearance and wonder if it detracts from the first impression one has when they start the game. The generic font used for "Slay" and the flat green background really doesn't give a good first impression. It would be great if the game rules went here instead, IMO. I'd probably also use some sort of blackletter (old English) font for "Slay" - even an illuminated blackletter font, if possible. I'd be happy to take a crack at it, if you're interested.

I've just sent an updated version (1.1) to the AppStore which fixes the two bugs found so far:

- You can now pick up Barons (D'oh)
- The game won't surrender any more when you click on the End Turn button.

Sorry about those two bugs! Hopefully that will be made available asap

While I was doing the update I also added pinching to zoom in and out.

BTW what do you guys think of having the status bar at the top of the screen? I thought phone users might need that but as I've only got an iPod Touch I couldn't tell myself. Let me know if you think I ought to lose that so you get a bit more screen space.

Hi Sean,

good news about the update. Let's hope it gets approved quickly.

As to your status bar question: I've got an iPhone 3G and I definitely do NOT need to see the status bar while playing Slay.

I hope that you decide to get rid of it. :D

Great news on the update. I look forward to experimenting with pinching!

Regarding the status bar, I have an iPhone as well and I could live without it. There definitely doesn't seem to be a consistent approach regarding that amongst other apps, but there's really no reason to have it, unless perhaps one wanted to know the time without leaving the app.

Pinching will definitely be amazing, cant wait. I may have found another bug, I completed a level and it showed up in the "Select an Island" screen, as a level I won, exited out and rebooted the iPhone. Next time I started Slay that level had shown as never been played. Also, you know Sean your going to have to update your home page and add iPhone to your list of devices.

I would like to see a way to turn off sound.

I have also had some islands with land at the top that sits under the minimap and status areas, so there's only the middle third at the top that's available to see and place things so it can be a little tight. It would be nice if there was more water at the top so the map could be moved down under the minimap and status areas.

I've just sent off version 1.2 (so it should be available on the AppStore around the 27th March). It's got:

- ability to turn sound off
- auto zooms out at the end of your turn (and then zooms back in)
- tap on the map to scroll to that place
- four colour schemes

Nice. Continual small improvements are always good.

Those enhancements sound great! Thanks for all your hard work. Slay is once again on of my favorite time wasters - and definitely my favorite on the iPhone.

Awesome to see Slay on the iPhone. I was just thinking about it while I was up at GDC and looking for some waiting for the plane fun.

I was hoping there would be a listing of the updates from v1.0 to the current v1.2; which there is on this forum, but a more convenient place for those reading the reviews and reading about the bugs and wondering what the improvements were, might help even more.

I just found slay for my iPod. Just for the heck of it, I tried searching for slay in the App Store not really expecting to find anything. But, there it was, and I just went ahead and bought it. Slay is so freakin' awesome, I just HAD to get it for the iPod.

So, as I played the new version, I got to thinking, "what would make this game better? DLC."

Maybe add the ability to download Slay themes and custom maps from inside the game (look at Tap Tap Revolution). I mean, you do have a repository of maps and themes on your site, it shouldn't be too hard. ...unless you had to completely redo how the game reads it's files for this version...

Well, still, it's a great game either way, and I know I will be enjoying it for a long time.
(Here's hoping I can use the Scots theme for the iPhone version of Slay:lol:)

I'll be picking up an iPod Touch very soon, and I'm glad to hear this. Great job!
