I am on AIM as Jaron Pak, so if any of you see me on, you can see if I can play.

The current big group uses YM exclusively, if you can get that you can join us for sunday games and pickup games throughout the week.

Summer Hiatus for Sunday Slay Games

Post by gruff » Thu Jul 28, 2005 3:28 pm

August is approaching and the numbers of people showing up on Sunday is growing smaller. I myself want to spend more time outside on the weekends. Therefore I won't be arranging Sunday games for the month of August.

I will however still be on YM, and pickup games will occur throughout the week, sometimes even on Sunday. I encourage all interested parties to get Yahoo Messenger and join us. There are twenty of us now!

Is there a Yahoo! Group with announced pickup games online?

There is a Yahoo group, but for pickup games we've found that email and postings are not fast enough. To deal with connection problems and so forth instant messaging is essential.

One problem with using YM to contact players is that many people load YM only for Slay. So they rarely turn it on and rarely come to games. We have a lot of inactive players in the Slay Club. This is a shame. Maybe email alerts would be best.

I try to keep the AIM people updated when I think of it, I use trillian so I combined my slay list to include people on all messenger services.

Sadly I've been too busy with work lately to join the Sunday games. And when I'm sitting waiting for a test to finish, I play solo but for the most part that's too easy now. I play a board till I own 55% or so and then just set up knights guarding my borders and watch the bots beat themselves up. Then I poke and prod at the final two survivors, keeping them balanced against each other until I get bored and hit Ctrl-A to obliterate it all.

It's interesting how rapidly the game shifts from a struggle to a breeze as your countries grow in size. Very rarely when I screw up in the beginning, I'm able to cut a larger bot opponent enough to give myself time to expand, but for the most part, once anyone gets to a certain size they're unstoppable.
