Price of Slay/VAT

Post by Celosia » Wed Nov 23, 2005 3:18 pm

On the Slay page it says you can buy Slay for $20 - according to xe.com/ucc that's ?11.61. But when I went to the ordering page and filled in my details it gave a price of ?12.95, then added VAT, taking the total up to ?15.22 - a bit of a jump! I'm a bit annoyed, and being on a tight budget I'm not sure whether I'll order it yet. It's a bit off-putting when the price suddenly leaps up by more than 25%...

Strange. You should get 20 us dollars and buy it with those.

xe.com isn't exactly the most accurate source. The value of money fluxuates daily.

No offense, but its not Sean's fault you live in a country that charges outrageous taxes on Internet orders.

Stupid thing is that I live in the same country as Sean. And most sites state the price including VAT, and if you're exempt they reduce the price, rather than the other way round. There's no mention of the VAT-inclusive price until you've entered all your details including credit card.

Since you and Sean live in the same country, maybe you could just send him a check, money order or even cash via snail mail? If nothing else, try emailing Sean and maybe he can work something out for you.

Good idea, I've messaged Sean. It's not that I'm a skinflint, but my car needs work doing on it soon and I'd only just managed to justify spending ?12 on a computer game right now, so it's a bit offputting for the price to go up like that.

Perhaps the price is ?12.95 and the dollar price is out of date and should be put up? :P. But either way, the prices in different currencies should be the same, although it is difficult to keep it that way.

I think the price on the Slay page should be inclusive of VAT, and in my opinion should be in ? (after all, Sean is a Brit), and other countries should have to take their chances with the exchange rate. Just my opinion.

As an American who didn't have to do any math, I have no complaints!

Maybe he should list prices for both? I don't know all the ins and outs of the online ordering system.

as a brit, i have to do maths.... lol

fair enuf, if (to make things simpler) $2=?1, then games are $20/?10. problems arise with things like exchange rates.

I.E. if they changed so now it was $2=?0.75, is the game sold at $20/?7.50 or $26.67/?10??? if the prices are fixed in each country, then it would be unfair on the british having to pay more merely because of where they lived. its all rather complicated you see

Sorry about the VAT thing - but it's all the EU's fault! Last year they decided that all goods bought from EU countries had to have VAT added to them and RegNow.com (the company that takes my credit card orders) duly complied. I never see this VAT money as RegNow collects it and pays it straight to the EU at your county's VAT rate.

I sell most of my games to the US so I think it would be confusing to Americans if I mentioned VAT on the website.

Personally I think VAT's a stupid tax in the age of the Internet!

...which explains why the EU decided to raise the issue. Is it me or are they really acting stupid all the time?

Sean, did you get my PM? I'm not sure if it sent, it's sitting in my outbox rather than my sentbox, and there doesn't seem to be a re-send button anywhere...

It doesn't go to your "sent box" until he has read it. Once he has read it, it will move there and disappear from your "outbox"

Ah, thanks, usually outboxes hold unsent messages and there was no indication that this worked differently. Handy to know...
