What's your favourite Skin?

Post by Marcellius » Tue May 30, 2006 6:12 pm

What's your favourite Skin(apart from ones you made yourself, of course), and what kind of skins would you like to see in the future? :)

The Medieval skin is the best. Most player-created skins are difficult to read: it's very hard to tell which piece is stronger and which weaker. They look cool but are for the most part unplayable. If you are designing new skins please have them playtested for readability.

In the medieval skin, to begin with I found it hard to tell if the spearman or the knight was stronger, because the knight doesn't have any weapons.

In any case, would you like to see some other new skins which are clear? If so, what would you like to see?

Make a skin that is Roman soldiers. Legionary, centurion, general, emperor.

Make a skin that is vehicles: unicycle, motorbike, car, truck.

Make a skin that is animals: worm, bird, lizard, lion (or something). Or fish: from little fish to whale.

I wanted a 'realistic' set of playing pieces so I created a WWI skin with soldiers, cavalry (bit of a stretch for 'realistic' WWI!), tanks and biplanes. Also barbed wire and minefileds to replace trees with forts to replace castles.

Frankly, it didn't add anything to the game play so I went back to the default.

Pretty cool idea though I thought...

I agree that medieval is best for "readability", though penguins is quite good.

(Yep, I finally splurged and bought the full version, though I saved a couple of quid by paying $ through paypal instead of ? straight from my cc)
