Whats the best island you have played in version 4.2?

I'll just post a couple that are really interesting in terms of the logistics of winning.
#64 is the hardest Island. I beat it in 27 days.
#383 is a really good one to play. I beat this one in 18 days.

after many hours and many restarts, I beat #64 in 27 days too. It offered to surrender on day 24, and it took me the next three days to mop up. damn was that a pain. It was like trying to follow a map thru a minefield - get all the initial moves, but one false step and the game is shot, start over...

gack. Island 28 is killing me. Tips?

You need to join the three territories in the main (NW) bulb of the island as soon as possible, while keeping the territory in the south alive. Then, join those territories and make a run for the narrowest part of the neck
between west and east. If you can put a knight there, you can mop up
everthing to the west of the neck and become invincible.
I hope that helps. If not, let me know so I can send you some screen

I should have mentioned that Darrel has beaten island #28 in 29 days (according to the scores he posted in another thread). I've managed it
in 31 days. I don't find that island to be particularly hard, but it does take quite a few days to beat.

I finally got it, in 30 days. I don't remember now what I did differently to survive... Thanks for the advice though.

My best time for #28 is 22 days. Its a difficult level at best. The key to a fast win with this one is the positions you place men into on the first day. Its definitely one of the more difficult islands to beat.
Mark, Though I had 29 days on the screen capture, I had beaten #28 in 25 days on a previous 4.x version. I replayed it again tonight just to see if I could do any better and managed a 22 day win. I have to confess though that I re-started the island about a dozen times to find the optimum player positions. The key is to not join the men in the middle on the first move, then combine them on the 3rd day.

Island #371 seems to be a relatively difficult one. I haven't found a way to beat it in fewer than 35 days yet, although I know it's possible to beat
it in 26 days (according to Darrel's screen capture). I don't know whether
to feel challenged or annoyed at this point, but I'll keep pounding away at
it until I have a breakthrough.

Its possible to beat 371 in 25 days. Its not easy to do though. The key is the opening moves especially in the East.

I just found a way to beat that island in 28 days, so I'm satisfied. My current goal is to beat every island in fewer than 30 days, and it's
always nice to come with a few days of your best score.
As you suggested, the key to success was finding a combination of moves in the E (both NE and SE) that enabled me to join those two territories before Player #2 became invincible. Keeping my territories in the NW
and SW alive as long as possible helped block Player #2's growth, too.
As you know from our network games, my tendency is to play a "tidy"
game, i.e. capture all hexes in a region before moving outward to confront the enemy. This is an island where that strategy definitely does not work!

Pretty good at 28. Whats your best with #381? I just played it in 22 days. Its a tough one!

The best I've been able to beat Island #381 so far is 29 days -- still quite a ways from your best score, but within my goal of 30 days for all islands.

While I've played several other islands over the past few days, one of the most unique yet is #180. There is a 17 day solution to this one that is uniquely non-intuitive.

I've been able to beat that island in 24 days without employing any
unique or non-intuitive tactics. What did you have in mind?

#203 is downright vicious. A really fun one to beat though.
