Problem w/Small Maps

I am having a problem with small maps.

I'm using Conquest v3.0b. If I start a new game with a small map,
such as Mike Crush's _29_Tunnavassun, place my men, and start
a battle, there is a problem with the contents of the green band at
the bottom of the screen.

Normally, the green band displays the name of the territory I'm
using to attack and the name of the territory I'm attacking. To the
right, it normally displays the icons for all dice, three dice, two dice,
and one dice (the number of dice to use for attacking), plus the icon
for stop attacking.

With a small map, I can only see the territory names and the first
few dice icons. The one dice icon is partially (mostly) cut off, and
the stop attacking icon is completely missing.

Sean, I think a case could be made that Conquest should not shrink
the screen to the size of the map, if it means that some of the icons
used to control the program won't be displayed.

Mike, I think a case could be made for enlarging some of your
smaller maps to prevent this problem from happening.

What do you guys recommend?

Regards,
Mark Collier

Hi Collier,

I (Mike) created the smaller maps before this newest version of
Conquest - I still have an older version of Conquest around and play
the small maps from many people on that version.

Sean's newest version of Conquest has updated graphics and the
specs don't always allow for older - smaller maps to play so well.

If I create any new maps I will of course fit them to play perfectly
with the newest version - I'm not sure what Sean plans to do for
those seeking to play the many smaller maps on the newest version.

You could ask him for the previous version of Conquest I suppose - to
play the smaller maps on.

to: Sean - no worries guy - your latest version of Conquest looks
nice, and I understand that it's ongoing and things must change.

Good Luck & Gaming Collier !

The small maps are really meant for Pocket PCs which only have a screen resolution of 240x320 pixels. The original Windows version of the game was actually just a port from the Pocket PC version so at first it could play the small maps with no problems. But since I've improved all the graphics there just isn't enough room to fit all the controls in. What I'll look into though is to make the window only shrink so much and have the small map centered in the middle of it with blank space around it. Hopefully there are enough large maps to keep you happy until then!
