"Defend Politician" bug? Anyone else had this?

"Defend Politician", all enemies killed, escorted politician's shuttle to the edge of the game area and beyond, waited 5 or 6 turns, flew out of the game area. Result - "Mission failiure - the politician was killed". NO HE/SHE WASN'T, I saw the shuttle leave the game area (I don't mean it crossed the dotted line, I mean it properly left the game area). If I get the "Mission Over" while the shuttle is still in the game area, then the mission is successful. Has anyone else had this? Am I doing something wrong? Should I be hyperspacing as opposed to flying out of the area to end the mission properly?

actually, it counts as being destroyed if it leaves the area. this can also work in your favor, as there have been countless times where i have been flying around shooting a missile every 30 turns and then the mission suddenly ends, declaring that the politician/colonizer/whatever other moving targets there are has been killed.

I remember one particularly annoying mission where I spent most of the battle bumping against the last hospital trying to prevent it from running off the screen.
I completed the mission but got no medal as I hadn't managed to kill anything.

I just had the defend politician bug too but he didn't leave and for some reason there was only one enemy a cheap wasp. But On attack missions i loose when the enemy gets away so what is this about counting it dead?

This is one of 2 or 3 miscellaneous game logic bugs. There is another one when on a defend stranded ship mission. Under some conditions, your stranded ship will hyperspace. You get a mission failed because the stranded ship is not on the screen at the end of the mission.
There is another bug associated with the missiles enemy ships fire at you. Have you noticed that under identical conditions the enemy will hit you where you can't hit them? This is especially noticeable with the Orik.

i couldve sworn a stranded ships hyperspacing counted as it surviving. i remember getting frusterated and forcing my own stranded ship to hyperspace, guaranteeing a mission success.
also, i have been complaining about it being much harder to hit enemies than be hit. hadean had mentioned it being hard to avoid oriks too. i can only dodge it with ships with very high turn (actually, all ships i personally use), especially when the enemy shoots it before you start turning to avoid it
