I find they work best with ships with high turn, 2 or 3 missile launchers, and lots of dayconrs and drachans. Less than that and they'll be weak and die; more than that and they are too powerful when they do a friendly fire.
I find they work well with, say a Breeze or a Dread or maybe a Crow.

Good observation, but there seems to be a few exception to this rule. Watchers are a real pain with the AI driving. I almost never know they are there until there are two genees screaming up my rear with hardly one turn to react. That stealth is a killer, even though im usually flying a ship with MUCH more stealth than a watcher. Same thing happens with phantoms and other ships of that class, however it worse when a plectron comes out of nowhere and destroys you all in one turn. Very frustrating. Those two ship have caused me more grief than any other ships in the game, other than freindly super turrets, of course....
