Here's my custom fleet of fighters...

The Broadsword costs 442 credits, and is pretty much invulnerable. I just topped 250 missions and 750 kills flying it.
C&C appreciated - which is your favourite?
(Lurker, Stalker, Prowler, Predator): highly agile stealth fighters.
(Cutlass, Scimitar, Sabre, Broadsword): very heavily armed fighters (may be considered cheating).
: my oldest and favourite design - very high thrust, durability, and stealth (but criticised by some for its lack of agility).
: wingman version with more scanners and different missiles.
: based on the Polaris, but with much improved agility and new styling.
: another old design, extremely durable.
: scout ship to be used by your wingmen - will never be destroyed, run out of ammo, or steal your kills.
: based on the Rover, but suitable for attack missions rather than scouting.
: expensive multi-role ship, with extremely high speed and firepower.
: much cheaper version of the Hustler.
: a good all-rounder that doesn't excel in any one area.

These designs are absolutely beautiful!
I think my favorite design is the Broadsword.
I can tell you definitely have a different flying style than I as many of the ships have a higher thrust than turning rate. I found that this ability is quite useful for dodging oriks.

Your fleet looks great. (bette then my effort at a custom fleet!)...
One question though... At 442 credits, do yo get to you the Broadsword often? (at least when yo were starting off)... I made a handfull of ships, the most expensive costing 171 credits, but it does not appear in the selection window very often?

After 30 mission, I have buy a 180 credit ship, but a 420 credit, I don't think that it is possible.

The average is about a gain of 5 credits per mission so if you start with 350 and play 30 missions, you would have a bit over 600 credits which would allow you to buy ships that cost up to 200 credits. Note that you would get 3 promotions along the way and should be very close to an admiral at the 30th mission.

If it a gain of 5, it will be 500 credit after 30 mission. But you need to be very good to make a 100% mission sucessful.

You missed the bonus for promotions. as noted, 3 promotions. That puts you a bit over 600.

The most expensive ships you can afford at the start of a game cost 116 credits (1/3 of 350 credits, which is what you start the game with).
Generally speaking, I only die on fairly early missions (around mission 10-20, I think). Once you can afford custom ships costing 150+, you become pretty much invulnerable and the game actually starts to get a bit tedious if anything.
My best game was 1083 kills from 285 missions, and I only died after getting bored and switching to a really cheap ship (the usual reason I die on later missions).
I've now started going for the highest GoldCross% I can get, which I find a lot more entertaining than just trying to live forever. It basically means having to fly really cheap, attack-oriented ships with few wingmen (rather than the best ships I can afford).

You where better than me, I never go upper then 127mission, but I have a great kill ratio. (517 Kill during these 127 mission)

Because I was flying really expensive ships for most of those missions, I hardly got any gold crosses though (maybe 15, I think) so you'd almost certainly go higher on the roll of honour.
You'd probably have to kill about 5 warriors to get a gold cross in a ship costing 450 credits
I never fly ships costing more than about 125 credits any more - just makes it a bit more fun.

whit 116 credit ship, 3 kill and i've got a gold cross

Yes, much easier that way
I'm flying my Warthog design again (116pts) - currently 9 Gold Crosses from 16 missions (56%)

I preder polaris to warthog. Recently I have made an fourth version.
