A few ideas should there be another version of CM

Here are a couple of ideas that I have thought about to add more variety to CM and more strategy:

Different ships for different races- Would be great if different races all used completely different ships and all races had ships that were fairly good at different tasks, for instance one race having the best bombers while another race has good fighters, another could have really manueverable ships, another could have good stealth ships.

A special technology for each race- every race could have one or two unique ship components that thier race uses, like a a race whos ships can hold 1/3 as many missiles as other races and can hold up to six missile bays. Or one race having regenerative sheilds that come back after a few turns. Another race could have advanced radar that sees further than the nrmal ones and have missile bays capable of being mounted facing the sides and rear of the ships. A race whos ships are made out of radar-absorbent materials that automatically make thier ships harder to detect than others.

Allowing us to make our own race- add a few more special technologies that are not used by any race that we can choose for ours, such as advanced stealth pods, super repair bots, High speed plectrons, and an advanced missile maunching system that can fire every turn. Also, let us chose our color and name of course.

All starbases look much marger, have starbase class regenrative sheilding, and at LEAST 1 missile bay on each side mounted outward that can fire 1 missile every turn

Award credits according to kills and accuracy, not entirely on completion of the mission, but make completion of the mission a factor. A fairly larger factor.

Make a really, really hard to get medal that is higher than the glod cross and allows you to create a regeneration point there where you could return should you die.

Classing ships and programming AI to fly certain classes accordingly. For instance, AI flying a bomber would try to avoid getting into dogfights and go for the main objective. Fighters would fend off warships instead of going for fortifications

turret missiles that only turrets can use that move considerably faster and fly longer than the original missiles, because the traditionla missiles are too slow to be fired at a moving target from a stand still

Making the war winnable by having something like a 200 mission campaign where it gets progressively harder during like the first 100 successful missions but as your forces beging to turn the tide of the war, it gets progressivley easier as the enemy gets weaker and you get stronger. Then the last mission are epic battles to conquer the enemy's homeworlds.

I think thats about all I have to say for now......

I like many of your ideas, but I think what you are describing is a completely separate game compared to the scope of the current Critical Mass.

On the other hand, I think this would be a good thing to implement. There are still some issues to be overcome in general with how scoring is done. There is the problem with the AI swarming ships where the pilot has ejected already instead of focusing on the ships still firing at them. The AI also does not seem to care about the mission. I will fly past the enemies to destroy the targets before my missiles are all used up, but the AI will waste all its missiles on weak enemy ships and then not have any left over. And I seem to be rewarded more for destroying more powerful ships which in general is a good idea, but when the mission is to destroy some wimpy ships, those ships should also have a high value.

I would also suggest that the scoring should be based on how the entire team does - not just on your kills. And only have accuracy be a minor factor, like giving you a small bonus if your accuracy is above a certain level and you have fired more than X shots.
If I may say so, life is a game, and there's so much to do and so few turns.

Yeah, I hate when my allies steal my kill and I barely miss out on that Gold Cross I was aiming for.

Actually, mission completion seems to have a large effect on your medal. It's almost impossible to get a Gold Cross without winning the mission.

These are just some suggestions and I think the general scope of CM is about due for a change, or at least another game that picks up where CM leaves off. I dont play CM nearly as much as I used to because I dont see any point. I am just playing to die it seems, and so often it is a meaningless death from some wild anomaly. It never ends and youre pretty much gauranteed to die. Juat a little too meak and hopeless to me.
