Newbie Building Question

Hay gang...

I just got Critical Mass and I'm having an absolute BLAST playing!!

However, I don't understand one thing.
When I go to build a ship, the costs are confusing...

The shield, for example says it costs 2/2/8, Super Shield 5/5/20

What are these 3 numbers referring to...? Thanks in advance

Front cost/side cost/rear cost

If for example you place armour on the front of your ship it costs 2, on the side it costs 2 and on the rear it costs 8 (as rear armour is far more useful).

Thanks... One more question.

I don't see an ARMOUR icon to select. I see shields, radar, engines, missiles etc all in the box in the upper right corner. I can drag these into my ship.

Where is the armour located for building?

Yeah, sorry, wasn't very clear on that

I refer to shields as armour because, in my view thats how they behave. I think of a shield as the stereotypical one that covers the entire ship and regenerates, and as shields come in 'plates' and can take one shot then fail and don't recharge they do seem much more like armour to me.

I don't really understand why Sean made 3 numbers. So far, every component costs the same in front as on the side.

Also, on the subject of shipbuilding, Each type of missile costs 4 extra credits. So, for example, if a ship without missiles cost 100, adding 5 Plectrons would make it 109 (5 for the missiles + 4 for the type penalty). Adding 5 more Plectrons would make it simple 114 (adding 5), but adding 5, say, Oriks would make it 118 (again adding the type penalty). A little confusing, but not very. This makes it cheaper to have only one or two kinds of missiles.
