What is the maximum velocity of ships?

What about missiles?

I figure it would depend on the number of rear engines in ship

Missiles... I think you can click on one and see it's thrust... but I don't think it's very exact. I've seen Yataris just ZOOM when they're suppose to be slow.

Your thinking of thrust, which is the ability for a missile or ship to accelerate. Yataris have terrible accleration, but if launched from a very fast moving ship they can zoom along as fast as any other missile because all missiles (and ships) have a maximum velocity.

In reality in space maximum velocity would be the speed of light, but for practical reasons, the maximum velocity of ships in CM is much lower.

Anyone have any idea what it is, and what the maximum velocity of missiles is?

Well, I wouldn't really know how to express the maximum velocity even if I knew it; Sean doesn't exactly list distances. Unless you're thinking of a pixel-per second kind of thing.

I?m thinking in terms of thrust. If your ship starts from stationary and accelerates for a thrust of 50, then its travelling 50 units per turn. Then if it accelerates 50 again, it must be travelling 100 units per turn.

Well, it's all completely wrong for real space travel because you're right, you should just get faster and faster each turn. I put in a maximum speed just to make the game playable. And anyway, the world is 2 dimensional and it really ought to be 3D if it was really space but it's justa game!

BTW here are my constants for maximum speeds:

#define MAX_SPEED_FOR_SHIP 280.0f
#define MAX_SPEED_FOR_CIVILIAN 50.0f
#define MAX_SPEED_FOR_EJECT 100.0f
#define MAX_SPEED_FOR_MISSILE 360.0f

And I think that would mean so many pixels when you are at x1.0 zoom in

So escape pods are slower than ships and missiles??
