stealth - once you're spotted, does it kick back in?

Yes it does. However, you notice on the radar when a ship disappears it turns to a question mark, and if there are no ship visible to your wingmen, they will head for the mark - I'm pretty sure its the same for the other side.

Has anyone else noticed your ships going in the oppisite direction of the mark, but sitll finding them? Or just me.

The AI knows all.

Actually the "?" moves in the same direction at the same speed as that ship was going when it was last spotted. So if it turns around, it will be nowhere near the "?"

I agree. AI keeps track of everything; that's why once AI spot you, you're toast.

ive also seen a stranded ship fire at my squadron across the map while an allied squadron attacked it in a custom mission even though there was no way it saw us

True; though there are certain missions where the wingmen fire off all their Drachans in the first few turns... As soon as they have a target, bye bye birdy.
