Additional ranks : needed?

Well, I know the topic isn't new but I?ve been wondering about it for a while and now I?m sure I?d really like to have additional ranks (may be one under Lieutenant, and two over Admiral).
WHY ADDITIONAL RANKS? To give more local colour ?? Well, not only. First and mostly, I think it would allow a much better organization of custom missions enabling or not (ye know, "Minimum Rank Required" selection) .
I think something like this would do: ENSIGN ? LIEUTENANT ? MAJOR ? COMMANDER ? CAPTAIN ? COMMODORE ? VICE-ADMIRAL ? ADMIRAL ? GRAND ADMIRAL, as:
- Lieutenant seems too high when you?re just learning to fly (and this way we?d have it all moved forward one rank);
- Captain and Commodore would be inverted to follow traditional habit and logic;
- Vice-Admiral and Grand Admiral would be added to get more flexibility when enabling really difficult or less difficult custom missions (well, I know a real life Grand Admiral or so would of course but seldom get out of his office to play field pilot games with risks and so forth, but it?s just the same for Admirals anyway...).
Note: I'd pick up Grand Admiral rather than Admiral of the Fleet cause it's just shorter (would make RoHs more readable...).
What do you, guys, think ?

I think it would be useful to have a more graded set of missions, so yeah, good idea. We need a version where you can have more objects in play and perhaps a bigger map, though, to make high-rank missions actually possible to write.

id get annoyed with a captain being above a major, but thats just me being pedantic. the ideas good, not sure how it works at the moment - do the ranks follow a naval or air force type theme?? or is it just a mish-mash of ranks that sound good???

It looks to me like a mishmash of ranks, but I dont know.
I'd make the ranks like this:
And then as the super-hard-to-reach rank, Emperor
Emperor could be one where you have to have like 200 or 300 successes, 1000 credits in your fleet, 20 GCs and stuff like that, so its basically the ultimate honor that isnt usually attained.
Another hugely important thing I think, would be to get more ships for the AI to use. When they stop at warrior class, and I can get bigger better ships, I like never die by enemy fire, and I just rack up the GCs.
We could just have a "contest" sort of thing where anyone can send in classes of four ships to Sean or someone else who would pick the best looking sets, preferably with the normal autosize and no custom colors like the standard ships now. You could change the components or tweak the ships to make good classes to come with the game. Another think I really want is the option to disable standard ships for my squadron so I can have more of my ships available.

The thing is, you start as a Lieutenant because you are already leading a squadron. It doesn't make sense for an ensign to lead a squadron so that's why you start at a higher rank.
