Medals

Is there any general rules on medals?
Once I got a GC with 1 kill and once I didn't get one with even more kills.

It seems to be a complex mix of -

Hits
Kills
Friendly hits/kills
If your wingmen survive
If you eject
If the mission is successful
Number of missiles remaining

Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong.

not so much missiles remaining as hit percentage, I think. If you get 1/45, you chances of getting a medal at ALL are fairly slim; however, if you get 45/45 and like ten or eleven fighter kills, you will almost definately get a gc, so long as the other criteria you mentioned have been followed farly closely.

Also, I have a mission called "Ambush" where my lone squadron gets jumped by four enemy formations - my squad is usually dead or hyperspaced by the end, and I finish it by myself, and get a gc, so I dont know how much bearing your wingmates ejecting has on it.

Yes, that makes more sense. The standard of enemy ships destroyed must also have a bearing on medals, i.e. killing 3 Anacondas versus killing 3 Drones.

One of the most important factors is the ratio between your ship's value and the total value of the ships you destroyed. This is probably like the main factor in determining your medal. Also hyperspacing seems to have a negative effect on medals as well, not just ejecting. Its not as bad as ejecting though, thats for sure.

however, if you leave the sector, as opposed to hyperspacing, there is no negative effect on your medal (that I could see) and your wingmates dont immediately hyperspace behind you!

Now THAT is REALLY interesting! I always get annoyed if I have to hyperspace and all my wingmen immediately become cowards and hyperspace as well for no good reason, when there's an undefended factory or whatever right in front of them!
