Ship of joy...

This guy is the ship of lurrve... the Impregnator has many great qualities and is available for download by clicking on his name.
  • 1. Fully loaded with two rows of fast little homing missiles.
    2. Shielding at the front and sides - only where it's needed.
    3. Loads of thrust - allows him to push on through obstacles.
    4. Repair Bots x 4 for after he's spent - he has a quick recharge.
    5. Loads of missile launchers - ensure that he hits the target.
    6. Shields at the front that don't get in the way of missiles!
    7. He has no rear shielding - he's an attacker, not an attackee.
    8. He has very little brain - he's a stimulus / reaction type of ship.

When the Merikon see this ship coming at them (sic), they'll run away like the little girls they are!

A fleet of Impregnators would be pretty scary coming at you.

I'd just like to say to any newcomers to the game - think long and hard before starting to use "modified" ships, i.e. ships with more equipment on them than was intended when the game was designed. Once you start down this road it's really hard to go back. If you want to do this, hey, it's your call, I'm not saying it's wrong or anything, but in my opinion it kind of goes against the principles of the game.

Critical Mass is designed to be played within a certain set of parameters, and bloody good fun it is too, but personally I can't see the point of changing these parameters as this doesn't make it Critical Mass anymore. I know that opinion is divided on this - there are people who like to get the walk-through of a new game after having played it for five minutes, and there are those who prefer to slog their way through it the hard way.

Absolutely no disrespect to DpM intended (keep producing those ships mate, and welcome to the forum! I LOVE the names, and it's nice to see a fellow Brit on here :-)) but for new starters I would just say give the game a chance as-is before moving the goalposts. If you win every single mission every single time with mega-ultra-ships, I think it kinda takes the fun out of it.

I would like to completely echo the words in the previous posting.

If you're a newcomer to Critical Mass, then you should be challenged enough with the stock ships and ones you can build yourselves. If it's considerely too hard for you - well, strive to become better.

Remember that I started investigating ships for curiousity. It amazed me what could be done and figured it would interest people a great deal also. Even I put my ships down to 'testing' and 'ascertaining the limits' - that's why each ship has a single redeeming feature - either it's a mega-missile shooter, a super-turner, a brilliant see'er or an impressive hider. I do like to have 6 missile launchers though - I can't lie and hide from that one.

Anyway, to add credibility to this view that playing Critical Mass as it is intended is the best place to be, I would point out that although I've only been active on the forum recently, I purchased the full set of games on the 27th July 2005 - so I've been a player for around a year.

What I love about making my games moddable is seeing other people's imaginations run wild. The Impregnator - fabulous!

I own a fleet of these... and I'm guessing this is why I'm considered to be the closest thing that the Crab Nebula has to an Emperor. I rule with swift, yet fair, justice... my enemies are kept in line through fear... my friends are rewarded with little ships of their own... which I then destroy in acts of friendly fire.

I?m tired of staring at the sun
Can?t stand the way you put my eyes so I can?t see
Stealing every breath I breathe
You push me into overdrive
And I don?t need this kind of light 'cos now I?m done
You took everything while I was staring at the sun
I was staring at the sun
