Asteroids

Post by Legacy » Sat Jul 28, 2007 3:12 am

You remember the classic arcade game, Asteroids?

When I watch two Yatari and a Daycorn home in on an asteroid while I scrape by to lose the missile lock, I always expect it to split into pieces like the rocks in the old arcade game. Am I the only one?

I remember the game, but somehow never expect that to happen. Maybe it's because they're not big enough.

They still look like a couple dozen megatons should blow them to bits...

I kind of like the idea of asteroids exploding upon missle impact. This occurence would definitely allow for greater tatics when planning an assualt on enemy turrets or escaping from enemy missles hot on your ship's tail.

They'd have to have some kind of internal structure of sorts, maybe. That way a small warhead wouldn't split one, but a large one would.

It would be great but it would be impossbile to move through an asteroid field with missles on your tail and asteroids splitting and hit you constantly on all sides.

Not impossible. It would simply require a more carefully plotted course.

I quite like the idea! I'll have a good think about it for the next version.

You would have problems of the asteroids becomming smaller and smaller until they were dust. At some point (similar to the asteroids game) they would have to be totally destroyed.

Yes. They would.

This idea seems like a winner to me. The computer pilots might have a tough time though.

They already have a tough time with anything involving asteroids.

Seriously! I 100% agree with you on that OMJ. However, maybe if the AI could actually shoot the asteroids, they wouldn't be so dumb. Instead of holding their fire when you are behind an asteroid, they'de just OPEN FIRE!!!

Yes... I can see this working...

You've got my vote!
