I just flew a patrol mission where my squad was destroyed and I was forced to eject. But because the I nailed the enemy leader first they hyperspaced before my pod did.
I just held a whole sector with an escape pod.

has anyone finished a mission and then had a stray missile kill you in the last few turns that pass by automatically? i've been wondering for a while if that counts as you dying or not...

Naver happened to me. It seems a bit improbable to have a stray missile coming at you after you destroy the last enemy, well, maybe launched by one of your pals... anyway, if you get killed it's over, no matter when or by whom.

the mission only ends when the last missiles have exhausted their fuel, so it could happen right.
If that happened I would say DRAT!

Indeed, but the missile has to be fired from somewhere, so all enemy missiles would certainly be moving away from the battle by then. The only missiles moving in would have to be fired from 'outside' and since you just killed the last enemy there isn't anybody there anymore.

Those are around for a long time, but they, too, would be travelling away from the battle. It's a matter of geometry, not of range.

You can be killed after the end of mission. I've had it happen several times and it is very frustrating. I asked Sean to take a look at code to fix this which hopefully will be incorporated into the next version of CM.

A good point but it assumes a single skirmish rather then a big engagement or just a split up fight between two squadrons.
I would rather keep being killed at the end then loosing it. Being hit by a missile after the white flag has been waved hurts just as much

Eh, it just almost happened to me. Thank God for redundant life support systems...
