I just loaded CM, and I got a message saying something like "The file rollofhonour.dat appears to have been copied from an earlier version, so it will have to be deleted", and I've lost all of my commanders!!!!! I wasn't fiddling with anything, I always play the game "properly" and don't cheat. Any idea why this happened? I assume that they're gone for good?

Hm, happened to me once or twice, too. Sorry, but I believe they are gone.

Did you log on to Windows as a different user?

No, my laptop only has "me" and "guest", and I'm always "me"

This just happened to me for the second time, too. Again, no fiddling around, and no changing users...

If you can upload a new blank rollofhonour.dat and a backup of the one with all your commanders in it, I can make it work.
After copying the blank ROH file, DO NOT OPEN CRITICAL MASS until I have sent you your fixed ROH file.

Thanks for the offer, but it's ok - kind of gave up and just carried on playing, but it's still a bit annoying. Anybody know of a prevention rather than cure fix?

Something changed the critical mass key in the registry or prevented CM from accessing/modifying it.
System restore? Registry cleaner? Antivirus/Antispyware?

Haven't done a system restore/registry cleaner... I do have antivirus and antispyware software, but I use them quite a lot and the issue with the .dat file has only happened 3 times, so I don't see how it might be connected...

Yeah happened to me too after I installed Service Pack 2.
I canceled CM when it said it would need to delete it, and then copied the rollofhonor to some place safe from its treacherous hands.
