Don't be so stingy. For the amount of fun you have probably had with this game for $20, don't you think it would be worth it to pay another $20 for multiplayer, a scenario editor and the ability to load infantry into vehicles and tow AT. Then we could play Alpen line and I could slaughter your Italians from my Little Maginot Line forts.the space predator wrote:Buying new licence? I'm not sure. 20$ for one game, a great game yes, but just one, and not the best ever. It start tobe a bit expensive. And now pay a second time to have an update... 15$, it is the maximum for one update.

Well, if multiplayer were added, I wouldn't mind buying the "all windows games" package again, to get a second set of network keys for playing on my home network with friends.the space predator wrote:Buying new licence? I guess leaders/commanders in real battles find that a problem too!GeneralPrioux wrote: . . . . it will be too hard to see enemy units and manage your own.
Mon General, I have never had a chance to play anything multiplayer, I would love this to be the first.
I agree that there would be plenty of users who would be willing to pay for a major revision of Firefight. I certainly would.
Voila du boudin!
Where did you see that?=the space predator
I have see today that there is an update whit new tank. can we download it directly from the site? If yes, where?
It is not too hard to make a new vehicle, it is just a matter of adding a data file to the "Tanks" folder. It is not essential to make a new graphic for it, you can use an existing one. Examples are given in the forum and on the wiki.
This does not constitute an update as in the sense of a new program feature.

Mine do - I have no room for any of this hiding-behind-metal-cowardice in my regiments.GeneralPrioux wrote:....MY CHASSEUR REGIMENT COMMANDERS DO NOT WALK INTO BATTLE BEHIND ARMOR!!!

The tank in question was an improvised tractor designed by a New Zealand politician at a time in early '42 when the Japs were coming and no help was in sight from across the Pacific. It's basically a WW1-style armoured MG carrier.
Dunno what happened to the files as the link seems to have died.
Cheers,
Andy

I only found out from this thread. There were 2 news events the version 4.1, and the AFV data updates. Neither were in Sean's sticky thread in this forum. I feel once might be a mistake, twice and I am starting to feel insulted.Andy Brown wrote:I don't often check the website but it talks about version 4.1. I wonder why it wasn't announced in the forums?
I wonder if existing owners qualify for an automatic update?
The "fractal hills" were mentioned. I downloaded the latest demo version, and I find its hills are no different from before. The demo itself works differently, it is a campaign rather than a single battle.
The artillery purchase menu is not available in the demo, so I could not try out moving the guns on the map. I would want the "wandering guns " problem fixed before I bought a new version. There are some characteristics of the game we can debate about them being good/bad/historical/playable, but the wandering guns are a dead-set bug!

New Data
I downloaded the free demo. I then renamed my existing Programs\Firefight folder to Firefight_Old.the space predator wrote:If the upgrade his just new data, why can't we download it like we can download map, theme, language, ship for slay, conquest, critical mass, the general.
Then I installed the demo. I played it a couple of times, then I moved Firefight.exe from the Firefight_old folder to folder Firefight.
This effectively gives you the latest versions of the data and graphics, with the full version 4.0 game.
I now have about 7 Italian vehicles to choose from instead of 4. So what?
The Wirblewind is fun though. Does the same sort of thing as the M16 half-track I developed some time ago.
cheers

Here they are, in version 4.1:JeanBoule wrote: The "fractal hills" were mentioned. I downloaded the latest demo version, and I find its hills are no different from before. The demo itself works differently, it is a campaign rather than a single battle.

The current demo is still 4.0b, I think.
If you bought the game, just email Sean, and he'll send you a link to the installer for 4.1. No idea when/if the demo will be updated.
