Post by jmack » Thu May 14, 2009 1:52 am

hey i was wondering if it is posible if I or someone has modded this game so that you can save your last mission. and go back to it if you die.

i just hate starting over and over and over. thx

Sean used "Permadeath" for a reason.
You will seriously spoil your own enjoyment of the game by cheating.

I suggest you just get better at it, and start using the hyperspace/eject options a bit more.
Also, use custom ships - the built-in ships are crap. Try my Warthog design for example (toughest 116pt ship you can buy) - see CUSTOM FLEET thread.

Anyway - there are some people who have found ways to cheat and bring back dead commanders, but they're not inclined to share their methods.

The only solution to remake a mission where you have die his to make a copy of your game. but I agree whit Sketchy, do it make game become less funny.

Well, I think death is kind of the logical consequence from that stance.
But seriously: I'm certain somebody has previously done what you are looking for. I couldn't find the thread again, but depending on how important it is to you, you might have some more time to search around the forum.

What?!
Sean went to a lot of effort to prevent people re-loading dead commanders. eg. You are prevented from using a copy of a saved game.
On the other hand, he includes a user-friendly ship editor as part of the game - I'm guessing because he expects you to use it?

And yes, if you never eject or hyperspace then it's hardly surprising you die a lot. Those features are there to stop the game being too hard, and also to introduce an extra level of strategy. Knowing when to eject is a key part of the game. Your idea of a "fluke death" is probably someone else's idea of a "dumbass move, inevitably resulting in death".

I did discover one way to do it, but it's tricky, and I do consider it cheating, so I'm not propagating that information, sorry.

Refly loose mission is not very useful. Of course, start a new game is long and re start a new squad by zero...

When I was beta testing CM a few years ago, I worked out every possible way to 'save' a game and emailed Sean several times about allowing game saves vs the more realistic 'when you are dead, you stay dead' way it works now. The end result is the game you play. It does have a very simple way to save a game and to resurrect the commander if he dies. It is entirely manual, you have to save the files yourself and you have to make changes in the registry. I am used to the game and prefer to play without the artificial 'save' though I do use it at times when I am trying out a new ship or a new mission. That is almost always so I can play in the mission 10 to 30 range because those missions are the most deadly on average. My favorite commander is above mission 800 and still flying. He has never died.
