Tactics to win!

So the new version is just about finalized with minor tweaking likely to occur in the next few days. Here are a few tactics I've used that are highly effective.

1. When on a destroy transmitters mission, it is easy to run out of missiles trying to knock the transmitters out. They are extremely vulnerable from the rear but keep turning to present their well shielded fronts to any attack. Its very easy to defeat this if you have at least one other ship to help. Fly past the transmitters as close as you can get. The transmitters will turn to face you letting your other ship clobber them from the rear. You don't get any kills doing this but if you are out of missiles anyway, its a convenient way to get a successful mission. Just be careful to avoid any stray missiles!

2. Design a range of custom ships and don't stint on the radars. They should have price ranges from about 120 to 350 with each ship about 20 credits more than the previous one. By appropriate use of these ships you can get past the 20 mission barrier. What? Don't know about the barrier? Well by the 20th mission you will have been promoted a couple of times and will start to see some really hard missions with numerous enemies. The custom ships give you enough shields to live through these difficult runs.

Stealth pods on the rear are a must for starting ships, having four pods costs the same as 1 rear sheild and is more effective defense. They prevent enemies aquiring lock as easily and make it far easier to escape a combat situation without getting blasted as you retreet. As fusion said, the pre-made ships are not radar heavy, so they struggle to spot a well stealthed rear.

Probably everyone else knows this one but, in Version 4, when a ship is about to hyperspace, its engines turn from red to yellow. Gives you a clue as to what your victim is about to do!
