What are your Favorite Conquest maps and why ?
I'm hoping this will give some momentum and direction to those
of us creating maps.

A few maps I've played often from others are:

* King Of The Hill, by Rob Werhand - I love the strategy of this map! Must
have played it 30 times ... seriously.

* Bandor, by David Naglee - It's put together very well for my taste,
still one of my favorite maps to play.

* Khoras, by Sid6.7 - GIGANTIC! I didn't think I'd enjoy this map
when I first loaded it, but the size of the map makes it difficult
to keep up with all the players and their direction.

* Di'Mul_Jar, by Ekij - This person creates some nice graphics, maps
are enjoyable to view and play.

There are many more, but those maps and reasons stick out for the
moment. I've actually played every map on Sean's site ... at least twice.

A few of my own:

#04 BLOCKERS - One of my earliest maps and still one of my favs.
The WORMHOLE territories keep it interesting for me.

#16 SPACE - I enjoy the WORMHOLE and NEGATIVE territories. This
map includes both.

#28 SKULL - This can be a tough one if you don't begin strong.

#41 PURPLE - One of my smaller scale maps, I've played this one from
many different angles and still never beat it quickly.

I've just begun working on a few new maps again - thanks to John
Fowler's MAP EDITOR program - I'm finding it's quicker than ever
to create them.

i have not done all the maps yet maybe 40%?
so i'll kinda review later tonight/tomorrow those i have not seen....

if anyone one wants it i have done a map of greyhawk d&d
i'll only privately mail it as its a very well known copyrighted
map and i dont like the idea of posting it anywhere....

okay i've reviewed quite a few more and here is
my first list...it will change....

recommendations for you to play: 1 human 5 computers
all settings for computer players set to extreme...

#1 any of the box series by crush
these are just plain different so thats why i like them

#2 di'mul_j by ekij and nightmare by mattR
it was a nice well rounded artistic map
nightmare was just too cool well thought
out and just not a normal map...

#3 space,solar and trillian by crush
very artistic and trillian was a bloody battle

#4 esterbro by dmn and tyrania by dustwhirl
neat and real looking fictious worlds..

#5 illinois by kozwolski and japan by JJ
illinois was a hard fight i liked it for that
japan was even harder and VERY artisitc
it took me a few tries before i won one

#6 volcano by ekij and massachusetts by fowler
another ekij map well done and nice 30 minute
map....massachusetts was very well done i have
not won this one yet...

my maps in order of preference:

after all the above:

KHORAS
cuase i made it hard to follow so your
kinda edgy when playing it....it is kinda easy to
get into a corner though and work your way out
ithria is very hard to hold i might say...

Greyhawk
i like it becuase it was just fun to play it
with armies rather then RPG's and of course
its a real RPG world with a history and such...

Akin Kaway
kinda neat and i love the filipino people
and thier style so if you a filipino or filipino lover
heres your map! one spot is not connected
for a continient value so you got to work to keep
it and its almost worthless!

Htrae
you might like it i did a reverse earth
a what if land were water theme...take a look

Lirot,Nnyrk,China 1937,slegh,drak
all about the same nothing fancy
on nnyrk i made one continient
not connected so its hard to hold.
drak can be fun and the islands are
hard to hold drak is a real online world..

breminor
kinda easy but its a real neat online world
if you run..you'll only die tired

Thanks for the GREYHAWK map - just recieved it & will try to
play a game on it this weekend.


p.s. nice twist with the HTRAE map ! I knew there was something
interesting with that map - just couldn't place it *

People seem to have enjoyed Ekij's first two maps (Di'Mul_Jar and Twin Volcano) I'm interested to know has anyone tried (and if tried enjoyed) Ekij's thrid map '4D Hypercube'?

Mike - Thanks for all of your maps - super cool and I know you spent a lot of time on them...

I have pretty much played every map on Sean's website and have won each game at least three times. I have found that there are four types of maps, depending on the strategy required to win:

My favorite maps are those similar to the ones listed below. I like a map that requires you to find just the right spot with defendable borders. Usually, one of your opponents will break in through your borders, but you can usually recover: Asteroids, Bandor, Battlestar Galactica, Breminor, Canada, Canaries, Crashing Corners, DiMulJar, Diplomacy, Drak, Forest Battle, to name a few.

I also like maps similar to Massachusetts, USA, Wisconsin, Alabama. On these maps, the trick is to not take a continent, but to pick up as many territories as possible early on. In doing so, you get a high income due to the territories, but you don't provoke all of the other players into coming after you.

The third type of map is one that requries you to sit tight and wait for just the right time to start taking out other players and taking their cards. These types of maps include: Trillion Way and The 'S' Map - these are maps that provide easy access to all corners of the map. Also with this strategy, you are probably better off not taking a continent and provoking others into attacking you.

The fourth type is the linear map - I don't particularly enjoy this type of map. These are the Snake map, Loopies, Caribbean, ABC map, etc. Pretty much every territory is a defendable border. The trick on this map is to make sure you can get a card every turn and to pile up so that your opponents don't even try to go after you.

My favorite of all time is Crashing Corners. It utilizes all of the above strategies.

I have posted three maps to Seans website - let me know what you thought about them. They are Aussy World, Nightmare Inn, and NCC-1701-D. I just recently posted the last one so it might be a day or two before it gets posted.

Hi Matt, Thanks for the cool comments guy !

I'm just online for a moment - not enough time to regard your entire
post - but wanted to say I agree with much of what you posted on the
different styles of maps and play.

I also enjoy some of the smaller maps - the PURPLE map and RED map
are two which I've played many times ((again - it's easier to grab
many territories instead of trying to hold continents ))

I have played your AussiWorld and Nightmare Inn - the latter was a
brainstorm to play the first time! There's no rushing that game : )
Good Work Matt, can't wait to see the NCC-1701 !

There are 6 or 7 new maps I've recently sent to Sean - should be up
soon - hope you enjoy them *

Mike,

You did pretty good with Red. It catches you off gaurd because there are so many continent connections. At first glance it appears the "defendable boarders strategy" is best. You think you are well defended, then an opponent knocks a hole in your defense - you try to plug that hole and here comes someone else from the other side. I picked up two losses before I got a win.

"Speaking of not being in a rush...", if you thought Nightmare Inn took a long time, wait till you try NCC-1701-D (not to be confused with NCC-1701 by Brian Donnelly). I think I went a little overboard on this one...

Well, I see Sean has posted a bunch of new maps, so I'd better get to work.

someone beat me to doing the earthsea map!
i was kinding holding back cause it would have been huge
but now that i look at this earthsea map i see it did not
have to be...well done...

gonna look at all the new ones today...thanks map makers...


did anyone use CME to make thier maps?

Thanks Matt, glad you enjoyed the 'RED' map!

As for your new NCC-1701-D map - It's going to be the first new map
I play ! It looks ... tricky ... to say the least ; )

Thanks for putting that one out there. I'm a fan of that particular series
with Patrick Stewart. The 'history' you included on the map is a nice
addition too.

Sid, I've used the Conquest Map Editor (CME) by John Fowler on a
couple of the new maps - I think he's created a useful tool.
I'm planning on sending a donation his way.

Stewart, nice to see another DiscWorld fan in the Conquest realm !
Will there be an ANKH-MORPORK map in the future from you !?

I'll return with more feedback after I've had a chance to play them all !

I used the Conquest Map Editor on my most recent map. It was very handy after I got familiar with it.

* Conquest Mapita - It's a very clean an nicely laid out map with lots of connections to defend.

* Massachusetts - Hey, I love historical stuff. And it's large with lots of territories to keep me busy for a while. Having spent time stuck on screwy Massachusetts roads just makes me want a little payback.

* Trillian Way - Odd strategy here. Figuring out the strategy takes this map from hard to a bit easy.

* Under the Sea - Very few territories and lots of connections means you are always in someone's way. This map is meant only for the masochist.

* Forrest Battle - Cute grapics, love those trees and tunnels.

* Nightmare Inn - Different and fun. Definitely takes patience.

* Sea Land Air - One of my own maps that isn't posted yet. Many territories and continents (141 terr, 14 cont) and loads of intercontental links to keep you busy. With just me against 7 very clever computer players it took me all day and 397 moves to beat it, though I'm a bit conservative in tactic so I might have gotten it a little faster if I wanted.


I love most of the maps here so it was hard to put together a list of favorites. It would be easier for me to list things that make me close a map out before finishing it:

- Super tiny territories you can barely see. If you've played a map with a cluster of territores so small you can't tell what's connected or which armies are where then you know what I mean. Maps like this often show a single army wider than the entire border of the territory. Probably good maps, but just need to be bigger to see the details.

- Tiny map size. 640 x 480 is small, but any smaller than that is very tiny and difficult to see on modern high-resolution displays. (maps made specifically for palm PCs not included)
