Copyright Issues
Copyright Issues
Hi Sean
I am wondering have you had to deal with any copyright issues about Conquest, since Risk is now intellectual property of Hasbro Interactive ?
My friend and I have also been working on a software adaptation of a famous board game and we are just not sure will the copyright laws compel us not to publish our game, although, the game itself is basically different than the original one ? much like Conquest and Risk.
We would appreciate if you could share your experience with us, since your project Conquest has many similarities to our case and we are not sure how much would it cost us to pay a license fee to the original idea owner, if you had to do so with Conquest.

wtf?
Yeah, I've heard about Risk too, but I've thinks it's free ...something like chess or pool ...God damn it!!! I think it's found by Chinisse 5000 years ago ;-P.
But with little investigation I've found that in the mid 50's of last century, the Risk is invented by some Bro's Brothers. After they've
sold it for the few decades they sell the licence to the Hasbro company. ( It's protected now, by the U.S. Patent ).
Sean, is it true that you haven't paid any licence fee to the Hasbro?
Man, what you think if one ( of many ) of they lawyers could visit you in UK?
Jeezzzz. You're broke man. You'll be jailed man!!!
Or maybe the Queen of England will save you ass?

I don't know about copyright, but in Brazil have a similar board game, it name is WAR.

Copyright and the law.
Hi Guys,
Sean is right, you can't copyright an idea. Copyright is automatic for an original board-game! Anyone copying it runs the risk of infringement under Intellectual Property law.
The website Sean has directed you to is of limited use as it only shows a one page document. For detailed advice on copyright go to;
http://www.intellectual-property.gov.uk
Whether or not Sean's version of Hasbro's RISK and STRATEGO is legal is open to discussion.
I will say this. Since I wrote to Sean and said I thought 'End of Atlantis' contravined the copyright of my board game ESCAPE fro ATLANTIS!, he has changed his CD version from an island game to a space game. I welcome this. Whether this 'adjustment' to the game is sufficient to circumvent the law we shall see.
Hope this clarifies,
Blue Hippo
Any queries pm me!

On planet Earth and under International Copyright law, you cannot copyright an idea, title or ruleset to a game. You can only copyright artwork, box design and documentation. There are thousands of Risk and Stratego clones out there for the computer, I even have some dating back to the 70s.Copyright is automatic for an original board-game!

How about an on-line game?
I been playin' against the computer but I'd be happy ta' play on-line with some folks..I can be contacted at:
Synovio@comcast.net
If you want to play let me know when you are available to play. Three or four would be nice..I been tryin' ta' get some buddies ta' buy this game as we all played Risk years ago an' this is better..but so far, no takers..I don't understand it..it's so awesome! It's the best 20 dollars I ever spent!
Could it be everyone knows how good I am at this game?
