Most components destroyed by a single missile

Post by BoxZone_Author » Sat Mar 04, 2006 6:46 pm

I just has 16 compoenets destroyed by a single missile!
At least I only saw a single missile and I was sure it was a single Plectron but 16! Ouch!
Has anyone else had this many components destroyed by a single missile (and lived to count them)?

I've had a double plectron hit on an unshielded side, and it took out everything except for a thrust engine, a cc and a repair bot. I was way out of the battle, and we were losing. I was flying my Super Cruiser, which has max shields and way pimp on everything, all sides full. I went from undamaged internals to that. I just slowed down as fast as I could, managed to stay within the map (barely) and let my ship repair, as opposed to leaving and losing. All my ships were gone by about the time I finished repairing, so I went back, eliminated the objective and a couple enemies, and hyperspaced for the win. So.....to answer your question....I had 29 objects destroyed by 2 plecs. About the same as you.
I poop, therefore I am.

There appear to be two factors that determine the amount of destruction delivered. The first is the Mton rating of the missile which is 13 for the plectron. The second is the relative speed at which the missile strikes. For example, if you are going at full speed and slam 4 plectrons into a starbase, the relative damage will be greater than if you were stopped and fired 4 plectrons at the same starbase. Where the missile strikes may have some effect. If it hits on a "corner" of your ship, you will get more damage than if it strikes on any of the sides.

I didn't think speed played a part in missile damage. I find being hit by plectrons after head on collisions just as nasty as being hit by them at full speed.

Doesn't make much sense that speed would influence it either, after all it?s a nuclear warhead that does the damage, speed of impact is somewhat irrelevant.

i think theres a lot of randomness involved. a geenee might eliminate a lone shield but leave all internal components intact, but a dacorn could destroy two shields. i think daycorns destroy 1-5 internal components.

I don't know about the game mechanics, but I disagree on that point. The faster the missile, the greater the chance of actual penetration. As far as I'm concerned an explosion right in the middle of a vessel will definitely cause way more damage than a surface hit, no matter what's the basic principle of the warhead.

Once a missile has accelerated to its max speed, will it do the same damage if it hits after it has run out of fuel?
