Networking CM

Post by pedroski » Sat Nov 25, 2006 1:44 pm

You know in the history of the games it said something about networking Critical Mass. In my opinion that is the best thing you could easily do for any of the games. I would be awsome.

Awsome ... and possibly Tiresome if someone else took 30 seconds per turn where you are used to taking only 3.

Well turns never really take long and people could just speed up.

Just add an option for a time limit (set by the host) to turns.

That would be a good idea. IT would be awsome to have multiplayer campaign just like singlpayer but so meone is playing the enemy. iboth of u pick a race. and you save credits it bould be trying to beat humans though!

Don't get too carried away... remember, networking it would be a huge amount of work for Sean and (afaik) he's not said it's in his plans.

But yeah, it would be really cool.

It's something I'd really like to do but you're right that it would take a lot of time. Also, there are so many ways of doing it. Would the server computer player choose a mission and the players would be either attackers or defenders? Or would it just be a big free for all battle with a limit on the number of credits you could spend on your own ship?

That one's easy - the host would pick a mission, but one of the missions would be "free-for-all battle".

EDIT: It probably wouldn't be the same set of missions you had available in single-player, though. And yes, teams would be balanced through points limits.

So the most basic mission might be Xpts vs Xpts deathmatch (host picks X). Then there could be another one where P1 has a turret ring which P2 is trying to destroy... then you need to think about whether to deduct points from P1's team or not...

Thinking about it, I guess it is pretty complicated :D

Well, it depends on how many people can play; like for a turret battle you can have 2 squads of attackers and 1 of defender or something..it would be pretty hard to make it balanced and fair, though, so that's another reason why it's not likely.

you could just have a one on one campaign there would only be 2 races each of u would pick one and fight each other. when ever u got a defend mission they would be getting an attack mission of the same objective and u would fight each other.
