Slay Rankings online - fewest days

Post by BoxZone_Author » Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:48 pm

I have finally got round to creating an on-line 'high score table' for slay rankings (fewest days to win).
It only deals with Very Intelligent and presently only the 'very small' islands as I believe they are the hardest (the AI isn't as good once it has a large territory). I do intend to add the other islands later.

Check out the present rankings at:
http://www.btinternet.com/~boxzone/Othe ... nkings.htm

and if you have done any in fewer days submit your slay.dat (along with the name you want to appear in the high score table) to me (you'll find a bmp of my email address at the web page).

You need to note which version of the game the score was achieved on. Different versions have different islands.

Thanks Gruff, I wasn't aware that the islands changed across the versions. (Why was this done?)
I'm presently running Version 4.1 which (as I type this) I've just discovered isn't the latest. Ummmm.

Sean can you state when the 'change in islands vs version' occurred?

I believe it was done to keep the game fresh for old subscribers. And I think the islands change at every whole number version (3.0, 4.0 etc) - could be wrong there.

The islands all changed on version 4.0 and I've no plans to change them again. So, as long as people send in their scores and they are playing versions 4.0, 4.1 or 4.2 (or any future version) you can compare them. Pocket Slay changed to the same system too on version 2.0.

The main reason they changed was because I use my own random number generator routine now instead of relying on Windows' own one. This means I can port the game to other platforms (eg Mac, Linux, Symbian) in the future and everyone will still have excatly the same islands.

Not to complain but there is one other thing you should note. That is whether you accept surrender or not. I never accept surrender.

Sean,
Thanks for the clarification and explanation.

Fusion,
I do accept surrender, I will add that note to the website. I guess this costs you a few days.
Also could you submit the slay.dat file? I have written a program to automatically compare new 'slay.dat' and update my 'slaybest.dat' files so I am all set up to accept the results in that format.

thanks,
BZA
